Chris Alcock has been handed his Waratahs debut after Phil Waugh was ruled out of the clash with the Cheetahs.
Waugh has been sidelined with a quadriceps strain, so Alcock has been handed the chance to shine after impressing in training.
In Waugh's absence Dean Mumm will skipper the side, while Ben Mowen joins Alcock in the back-row after Wycliff Palu was ruled with a hamstring strain.
There will be two landmarks in the match with prop Al Baxter earn his 100th Super Rugby cap for New South Wales and Lachie Turner reaching his half-century.
The Cheetahs have made five changes to their squad with Springbok winger Jongi Nokwe returning from injury.
Full-back Hennie Daniller and scrum-half Tewis de Bruyn also come into the starting XV, while hooker Ryno Barnes and flanker Davon Raubenheimerthe are named on the bench.
