Wasps overpowered Cardiff Blues with a 40-19 Powergen Cup win.
Lawrence Dallaglio made a winning return to action for Wasps in a convincing Powergen Cup success over Cardiff on Friday night.Dallaglio started for Wasps after sitting out four months of action following a broken ankle picked up at the start of the British & Irish Lions tour of New Zealand.
Wasps made sure it was a welcome return for the former England captain in a convincing 40-19 victory over Cardiff Blues.
Tries from Ben Gotting and Paul Sackey had Premiership champions Wasps fully in control as those and two conversions and two penalties from Alex King put the hosts 20-0 ahead at half time.
Josh Lewsey increased the lead just four minutes after half time as he benefited from a poor mix-up in the Cardiff team as Nicky Robinson had his kick charged down by team-mate Deniol Jones, enabling Lewsey to latch on to the lose ball to run in the third Wasps try.
Cardiff finally found some impetus approaching the final ten minutes, when they ran in three tries in seven minutes to give some hint of an unlikely comeback.
A solo effort from Chris Czekaj sparked the min-revival on 67 minutes after he chased his own chip all the way to the line to score, before Xavier Rush touched down just two minutes later to further cut the deficit.
Maama Molitika added a third try for Cardiff minutes later but their comeback was shot down as James Brooks added Wasps' fourth try, and a conversion to settle the clash for the hosts and add the bonus point.
Ian McGeechan's Wasps now sit on top of Pool B with nine points with Saracens left to play, and are in pole position to make the semi-finals at the Millennium Stadium.
Cardiff, meanwhile, must beat London Irish next week and hope Saracens can do them a huge favour to stand any chance of making the semis.
