Leeds Carnegie boss Neil Back has opted to make five changes to his line-up for the must-win clash with Harlequins.
Newcastle's bonus point defeat Northampton and Carnegie's heavy loss to Wasps, means Leeds are currently bottom of the table.
And although both sides are level on points, Newcastle have a better points difference as well as the bonus of a game in hand.
As a result, Leeds know they must get a positive result to keep alive their survival hopes.
Back has added Christian Lewis-Pratt, Lachlan MacKay, Phil Swainston, Rhys Oakley and Alfie To'oala to his starting XV - with an additional change coming with Mike Stephenson switching to the wing.
Harlequins will be looking for some momentum to take into their Amlin Challenge Cup semi-final against Munster.
Back-to-back defeats to Leicester and Bath ended Quins' play-off challenge - but with a chance of European glory, there will be no let-up from the Stoop-based side.
Director of rugby Conor O'Shea has made just two changes to his line-up, with Joe Marler and James Johnston coming back into the front-row.
