Nick Kyrgios says he cannot wait to face Andy Murray after an impressive opening win on day one of the Hopman Cup.

The controversial 20-year-old was too good for young German Alexander Zverev as Australia Green team built an unbeatable 2-0 lead on Sunday thanks to Daria Gavrilova's win over Sabine Lisicki in the women's singles.

Kyrgios dropped the first set but steamed through the second two sets to beat the 18-year-old 4-6 6-1 6-4, in just over an hour of play in Perth.

Kyrgios will therefore face Murray when Australia Green, one of two teams representing the host nation in the event, play Great Britain on Wednesday - a match Kyrgios said he was keenly anticipating.

"I have been looking forward to facing Murray for a long time now so I'm going to go and do everything I can to physically prepare for that battle," he said.

"I felt as if it was a lucky break in the first set for Zverev, I played a couple of loose points. I knew I just had to stay calm."

Murray has won all four of their previous encounters, most recently in the 2015 US Open, with Kyrgios taking just one set off the Scot in their professional career history.

Gavrilova beat a rusty Lisicki 6-2 6-2, with Australia Green going on to achieve a clean sweep by winning the mixed doubles on a tiebreak 6-3 4-6 10-7.

The Russian-born Gavrilova only officially switched allegiances to Australia last month and said she was nervous before the match, while Lisicki was facing her first match since the US Open last September.
