Second seed Ana Ivanovic is safely through to the second round of the Generali Ladies Linz in Austria after overcoming a left thigh injury to win her opening match against Pauline Parmentier on Tuesday.

Serbian Ivanovic, who won the event in 2008 and 2010 and reached the final last year, needed just 66 minutes to secure a 6-3 6-2 victory over the 28-year-old Frenchwoman.

The eighth-ranked Ivanovic, who is chasing her fifth title of the season, recently qualified for the forthcoming WTA Finals in Singapore and will be hoping for a good run in Austria this week.

Fourth seed Andrea Petkovic will not be joining her, however, for she was a first-round casualty, losing 6-1 6-2 to Camila Giorgi of Italy.

The only other seed in action on Tuesday, seventh seed Karolina Pliskova, was a 6-2 6-4 victor over Belgium's Kirsten Flipkens.

Jana Cepelova, Klara Koukalova, Mona Barthel, Ons Jabeur and Tsvetana Pironkova also won their first-round matches to progress to the next round.
