Jordanne Whiley teamed-up with Yui Kamiji to successfully defend their Australian Open wheelchair women’s doubles title in Melbourne.

The English player and her Japanese partner beat the No 2 seeds from the Netherlands, Jiske Griffioen and Aniek van Koot, 4-6 6-4 7-5 in a closely-contested final.

The victory means she has now collected five straight Grand Slam titles in the women’s doubles and she told Sky Sports News HQ: “It’s always difficult coming off a successful year and then starting off strong, but we carried on where we left off last year.”

The triumph also earned Whiley a measure of revenge over van Koot who had knocked her out of the singles event.

Whiley and Yui Kamiji were the top seeds and reached the final with a last four win over Sharon Walraven and Katharina Kruger.
