Roger Federer is the greatest of all time, Tim Henman says

Roger Federer has confirmed his status as the greatest of all time following his Wimbledon triumph, says Tim Henman.

The Swiss won his eighth title at SW19 earlier this month to take his Grand Slam tally to 19 overall, four clear of Rafael Nadal in second.

And while Henman believes it's difficult to compare players from different eras, he would be hard pushed to pick a player who has ever been better than Federer.

"In my opinion, he is [the best], but I think it's difficult to compare generations," said Henman. "You think of Rod Laver who won all four Majors in a calendar year - he did that twice. And for seven years of his professional career he didn't play Grand Slams because he turned professional. So how many Majors would he have won?

"And then you reflect, the four Grand Slams were on grass when he played. So if you had (Pete) Sampras playing three of the four Grand Slams on grass, I'm sure he would've won a lot more.

"But right now it does come down to a numbers game and Federer's won 19 Grand Slams - that's the most of any player, any male player, so he would go down as my best of all time."

Federer is out of this world

Roger Federer will start as favourite to seal historic 20th Grand Slam title at the US Open

Having gone five years without winning a major, Federer's Wimbledon success was his second Slam of the year following his Australian Open triumph in January, and Henman has tipped him for further glory at the US Open.

"Right now he would [be favourite]," said Henman. "I think there's going to be a few changes between now and then but he's playing as well as anyone."
