Greig Laidlaw has been confirmed as Gloucester's new captain for the 2016-17 season.

Laidlaw, 30, replaces centre Billy Twelvetrees as club captain and will lead Gloucester into the new Aviva Premiership and European Challenge Cup campaigns.

Since arriving at Kingsholm in 2014, Scotland international Laidlaw has appeared for the Cherry and Whites on 42 occasions and scored 425 points, establishing himself as one of the most consistent kickers around.

Scrum-half Laidlaw has 53 caps for Scotland and will now perform captaincy duties for both club and country, something he says will be a privilege.

"I'm absolutely delighted to be named captain of such a great club. It's a real privilege and honour to be able to follow in the footsteps of so many great players at Gloucester, a club with so much heritage and history," Laidlaw told the club's website.

"Billy did a terrific job as captain and I'm delighted that he's still around, because having so many experienced senior pros in the squad makes the role a lot easier.

"The hard work for next season has already begun, and we're all hoping that it will be one to remember for everyone at Gloucester Rugby."
