Jonny Bairstow insists England will not panic if they lose the second Test to Pakistan, which begins on Friday, live on Sky Sports.
Alastair Cook's side head into the Investec Test at Old Trafford trailing 1-0 after losing the opening match by 75 runs at Lord's.
Wicketkeeper Bairstow - who made scores of 48 and 29 in the first Test - believes England will remain calm even if a defeat in Manchester ends their hopes of winning the four-Test series.
Asked if a second defeat would result in panic, he told BBC Radio 5 Live: "I wouldn't say panic, no, there will still be two more games to go.
"It wouldn't be panic stations, at all, by any means."
He added: "We've got to go out there and put the record straight. We were slightly behind the eight ball pretty much all the way through. It's a case of going out there, expressing ourselves and really just going out and attacking the challenge."
Stokes could be included to strengthen the batting and deal with the threat of leg spinner Yasir Shah, who moved to number one in the Test bowler rankings after taking 10 wickets at Lord's.
Bairstow said the team are working on plans to handle Shah's deliveries after being skittled out for 207 in their second innings.
"We gave him some soft wickets at Lord's. It will be a good challenge," the Yorkshire played added.
"There's no reason why we can't go into Old Trafford, into Edgbaston and into The Oval and nullify that threat."
England, who are fourth in the ICC Test rankings, are looking to overtake third-placed Pakistan in the standings with a series victory.
