Ireland seamer Nathan Smith has been ruled out of their inaugural Test against Pakistan after suffering a side strain.

The 22-year-old was unable to train on Wednesday and has been replaced in the squad by Craig Young for the game starting on Friday in Malahide.

Young made his debut for Ireland in 2013 and will join up with the squad for practice on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Barry McCarthy sustained a shoulder injury playing for Durham against Leicestershire last week and was not considered as he was sent for scans.
