Assistant coach Paul Farbrace says England are "consistently inconsistent" in Test cricket as he praised Sam Curran's temperament.

After earning a convincing victory in the second Test against India at Lord's, a poor performance with the bat, ball and in the field saw the home side outplayed by the visitors at Trent Bridge.
Discussing England's recent struggles with stringing together a number of Test victories on the bounce Farbrace admitted his side make a cluster of mistakes in one go.
"We are consistently inconsistent," Farbrace told Ward in an exclusive interview on Sky Sports Cricket.
"They [the players] are human beings, they are not machines, we make mistakes but it seems when we make mistakes we make them all in one go."
Farbrace believes the players find themselves under added pressure because of social media with some players finding it more difficult to cope with the criticism than others.
However, the 51-year-old praised all-rounder Sam Curran's temperament saying the 20-year-old's confidence in his own game means he is able to shut out any outside distractions.
Despite Ben Stokes' recent off-field struggles, Farbrace said there were no issues managing the player, calling him a leader, adding he was the player England always want in their team.
"With Test cricket there are great rewards but also distractions and the best players find a way to cope with it," Farbrace said.
"Someone like Sam Curran is not worried about the noise, he is streetwise and he knows what his job is.
"He has worked out that he has a lot of skill. Whatever is being written about them [top players], good or bad, they cope with. That's the difference between the players that make it at international level and those who struggle.
"[Ben Stokes] is a leader in your team and never accepts the game is gone and does everything possible to win.
"He is the bloke you want in your team. Every time he's not available you look at the balance of the side, he's almost two players in one."
