Marcus Trescothick has signed a new one-year contract extension with Somerset.

The new deal keeps the 42-year-old with the county until the end of the 2019 season.

Next season will be Trescothick's 27th with Somerset, during which time he's scored more first-class centuries (52) and more List A runs (7374) than any player in the club's history.

Since making his Somerset debut in 1993 Trescothick has scored over 26,000 first-class runs at an average of 41.42.

His England career was similarly impressive, he scored 5,825 Test runs at 43.79 and in ODIs he managed 4,335 runs at 37.37 in 123 matches.

"I'm delighted to have signed for at least another year," said Trescothick.

"I still have the drive, passion and energy to want to get better and strive to perform for the team.

"We've made good progress in the Specsavers County Championship and other competitions this season and I'm excited for what is to come for the club when you look at the combination of youth and experience within the squad."

Somerset director of cricket, Andy Hurry said: "When you think of Somerset County Cricket Club you think of Marcus Trescothick.

"His work ethic is second to none and you simply can't measure what he brings to the club behind the scenes and in the dressing room.

"He is the epitome of what a professional sportsman should be."
