England return to Edgbaston – scene of their sensational two-run win over Australia in 2005 – for the third Ashes Test on Wednesday.

But it isn’t the only 10-year anniversary of significance in cricket this summer. Charity Chance to Shine was set up in 2005 with the aim of bringing cricket to state schools and inner-city areas, with participation levels on the decline.

Ten years on the charity has reached 11,500 schools and 2.5m children who had never previously played the game, and to celebrate they held an exclusive screening of ‘Hidden Ashes’ – a documentary focusing on the famous 2005 Ashes series with unseen footage.

Stars from both teams were in attendance at the event – held at the Curzon Cinema in Chelsea – including Michael Vaughan, Ashley Giles, Simon Jones, and even Australians Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne.

Ian Bell – currently playing in this year’s Ashes – was also in attendance as was England’s new director of cricket, Andrew Strauss.

So far the event has raised in the region of £55,000 – a figure that is expected to increase as more donations come in.

Stories from the 2005 series were told – including Matthew Hoggard’s trip to Downing Street, Andrew Flintoff’s trip onto the tour bus after the win, and Ricky Ponting’s decision to bowl first in the defeat at Edgbaston.
