Dane Piedt is one of three specialist spinners named in the South Africa Test squad for their forthcoming series in India.

Piedt is recalled to the team and joins Imran Tahir and Simon Harmer, while wicketkeeper Dane Vilas has been retained after making his debut against Bangladesh in July.

Quinton de Kock was named in South Africa's one-day and T20 squads but dropped from the Test team.

Piedt's only previous Test match came against Zimbabwe in Harare in August of last year.

The Proteas, currently the top-ranked Test side in world cricket, will play four Tests, five ODIs and three T20s.

Faf du Plessis has recovered from injury to be included in all three squads while batsman Khaya Zondo could make his international debut after being selected for the T20s.

South Africa convenor of selectors Linda Zondi said: "It is good to have Dane back from his injury and Imran was our No 1 spinner for our last Test series on the sub-continent against Sri Lanka."

Zondi also confirmed that another Dane - wicketkeeper Vilas - would retain the gloves in this format having taken over from de Kock in Bangladesh in July.

He added: "It is very important that we maintain consistency in our selections and Dane hardly had the chance to make his mark in Bangladesh where the series was so badly disrupted by the weather."

South Africa will play a tour game in Delhi on September 29, followed by three T20s (October 2, 5 and 8), five ODIs (October 11, 14, 18, 22 and 25), and then Test matches in Chandigarh, Bangalore, Nagpur and Delhi.

The first Test will start on November 5th, while the fourth and final contest is due to end on December 7th.
