Lando Norris: McLaren driver signs contract extension until 2030 with target of more world championships

Reigning Formula 1 world champion Lando Norris has extended his contract with McLaren until at least 2030.
The 26-year-old Brit's previous extension, which was announced ahead of the start of the 2024 season, was understood to tie him to the team until at least the end of 2027.
He will now stay at McLaren for at least another four seasons with the extended deal to the end of 2030 including "a multi-year option to commit beyond that date".

Norris claimed the 2025 title to become Britain's 11th world champion, and the first McLaren driver to triumph since Lewis Hamilton in 2008.
Saturday's announcement of the new deal follows Norris winning last weekend in the Netherlands to claim the 13th Grand Prix victory of his F1 career.
Norris said: "McLaren is my home, and I'm very pleased to be signing a new contract to keep me with the team until at least 2030.
"When I started this journey nine years ago, I was clear about the goals I wanted to achieve: to get McLaren back to the front and to win championships.
"We've achieved that goal, but we want more, we want to keep on winning, and we know as a team that we're capable of achieving it."
Team principal Andrea Stella described Norris as "an exceptional driver, someone who combines outstanding natural speed with maturity, consistency and a strong commitment to McLaren".
"But above all, he is a special human being who is valued by everyone in the team," added Stella.
"Since joining McLaren as part of our junior programme, he has grown with us and played a central role in bringing the team back to the front of Formula 1."
After McLaren, the reigning constructors' champions, failed to claim a Grand Prix win across the opening 10 rounds of the season, Norris has won back-to-back races to reignite hope that he could yet defend his title.
Norris is fourth in the drivers' standings, 83 points back from leader Kimi Antonelli with 11 rounds remaining. Norris must also leapfrog Antonelli's Mercedes team-mate George Russell and Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton, who both trail the Italian by 59 points.
Norris is driving his eighth season for McLaren, having been given his F1 debut by the team as a 19-year-old in 2019. His 163 Grand Prix starts are a team record, with Norris having surpassed fellow Brit David Coulthard's mark of 150 at last year's Qatar Grand Prix.
McLaren's other driver, Oscar Piastri, last year signed a contract extension that ties him to the team until at least the end of the 2028 season.
McLaren were briefly linked with a move for Max Verstappen earlier this summer, but the four-time world champion recently ended speculation over his future by signing a contract extension - also until 2030 - with Red Bull.
On Norris' contract, Stella added: "This extension gives us important continuity and reinforces our confidence in the direction we are taking together.
"With him and Oscar, we know we can count not only on one of the strongest partnerships but also on one of the most united and close-knit teams in Formula 1."
Chief executive Zak Brown said: "[Norris'] journey with the team is a fantastic example of our commitment to identifying, developing and supporting world-class talent, and his achievements speak for themselves.
"Together with Andrea, Oscar and the wider team, Lando has helped drive McLaren into a new papaya era of success... We are extremely excited about what lies ahead and remain fully focused on continuing to compete for wins and championships."
'Four more years fighting for championships'
Norris has played a key role in helping McLaren transition from being a midfield team when he joined to returning to the front of the grid.
He and Piastri led the team to a first constructors' title for 26 years in 2024, before adding his maiden drivers' title the following season after coming out on top of an intense battle with his team-mate and Verstappen.
Asked during an exclusive interview with Sky Sports News whether it was an easy decision to sign an extension, Norris replied: "I would say so.
"After what we've achieved the last two years, over just the fun that we've had together since 2019, nowhere else I want to be, to be honest with you.
"I know we can achieve a lot more together here, exactly where I am, and I'm very excited about our future together."
Norris is open to the idea of spending his whole career at McLaren, and says he would be "so proud" to leave F1 having only driven for the Woking squad.
"I don't know what the future holds," Norris said. "I still, of course, believe that we can win more as a team and win more constructors' and more drivers' championships, and that's why I want to stay here.
"But they are also the only team I've ever been with and the team that I love, and I call this place my home. So, if I do end up just doing my whole career in McLaren, that's something I'll be so proud to say and to carry with me through the rest of my life.
"But I don't know what point I want to go to as a driver. Whether I want to be 30 or 40, 50. I don't know that state yet.
"So, I'm just very, very pleased to, of course, announce I'll be here for four more years and four more years fighting for wins and championships, hopefully."
