Robert Karlsson tees-up in this week's Portugal Masters hoping to extend his margin at the top of the European Order of Merit. European Tour stats package The Swede's recent victory in the Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews moved him ahead of Padraig Harrington in the 2008 Money List. And with the Irishman not playing in Vilamoura, Karlsson has the opportunity to put further euros between himself and Harrington. Also playing on the Algarve is Lee Westwood who still believes he can win the race to finish the season as Europe's No 1. A good performance by Westwood - nothing less than a top-three finish will do - will give the Englishman some hope of catching Karlsson and Harrington in the season's finale at Valderrama in early November. Once again the Oceanico Victoria course will stage the event, having made its debut as a European Tour venue last year. The Arnold Palmer design is flat and exposed, with greens that are fast, tricky and undulating. The eight-year-old layout, which hosted the World Cup in 2005, is sprinkled with fairway bunkers.

So who are the key figures this week?

Ross Fisher: Top-10 finishes in his last four starts that include a play-off defeat in the recent Links Championship at St Andrews. Was seventh in this event last year. Miguel Angel Jimenez: Can never be ruled out in southern Europe although his chances of topping this year's Order of Merit are all but extinct after finishing well down the field in Madrid on Sunday. Alexander Noren: Is making slow but steady progress up the European ladder. The Swede enjoyed a top-20 finish at Vilamoura last year and could be a good each-way bet this week. Charl Schwartzel: The South African's last five visits to Portugal have all yielded top-10 finishes. Usually enjoys Iberia and was a winner in Madrid last week. Lee Westwood: Has experienced a remarkable season in which he has posted seven top-three finishes on Tour - albeit without a victory. He was also third in this event last year. Oliver Wilson: The consistent Englishman will be desperate to claim a maiden Tour victory before the season ends on November 2nd. Was tied-for-21st at Vilamoura last year.
