Telescope has been ruled out of the Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster on Saturday week.
The Sir Michael Stoute-trained colt lost out by a short head on his racecourse debut at Ascot at the beginning of September before losing his maiden tag in a decent event at Newmarket at the end of the month.
The son of Galileo still holds an entry in the Group One event on Town Moor but Stoute, along with owners Highclere Thoroughbred Racing, have decided to bide their time and wait for next year now.
"Sir Michael has decided he doesn't want to run him again this year, so he won't be going for the Racing Post Trophy," said Harry Herbert, Highclere's racing manager.
"He's very well, he's been working very nicely but we have decided to put him away.
"Looking at him physically now, he's got a lot of size about him and there's plenty still to come.
"He's still very much a shell of a horse and hopefully he will continue to grow and develop through the winter.
"He's a very, very nice horse and we will look forward to his return next year, when hopefully he will be a Derby contender."
Telescope is already 25-1 for next year's 2000 Guineas and 16-1 for the Derby.
