William Fox-Pitt stable in hospital after cross-country fall

Top British eventer William Fox-Pitt is being kept in hospital under observation after suffering a cross-country fall during the World Young Horse Championships.
A brief statement on the former world No 1's official website said he had suffered a "head trauma" after falling from his horse Reinstated during Saturday's seven-year-old class at Le Lion-d'Angers in north-west France.
"William was taken to Angers hospital following a fall at Lion-d'Angers," the statement read.
"He has suffered a head trauma, but is fine otherwise. He is stable and remains under observation."
The competition was delayed for more than an hour while 46-year-old Fox-Pitt received treatment. Reinstated was uninjured in the incident, which happened at an owl hole fence.
Fox-Pitt, who is based at Sturminster Newton in Dorset, won Britain's top event - the Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials - earlier this year.
During a stellar career, he has collected 20 major championship medals, including three Olympic team podium finishes and six European team gold medals as a lynchpin of Great Britain's eventing team.
