Kyrie Irving scored with a last-second lay-up to earn the Boston Celtics a critical 114-112 victory over the Eastern Conference rivals the Indiana Pacers.
Irving scored a game-high 30 points on 11-of-22 shooting, including 3-of-8 from three-point range, and contributed five assists and three steals as the Celtics moved into a tie with the Pacers for fourth place in the Eastern Conference.
He saved his very best play for the game's decisive moment.
Indiana's Thaddeus Young completed an alley-oop to forge a tie at 112 before missing a driving lay-up on the next possession. Young redeemed himself with a steal, but Boston made a defensive stop.
Al Horford handed the ball off to Irving at the three-point line and the Celtics star made his move, Irving gaining a step on Pacers forward Wesley Matthews, weaving his way into the Indiana interior, fooling Young with a ball fake and then before converting the lay-up with 0.5 seconds left on the game clock.
Irving scored 20 of his 30 points in the second half, including a two-minute burst at the start of the third quarter in which he racked up 10 points.
