DeShaun Watson rushed for the game's only touchdown as Houston claimed their first win of the NFL season with a 13-9 victory at the winless Cincinnati Bengals.

The Texans and the Bengals had endured losing starts to the season in Week One and while both teams looked nervous and edgy on Thursday night, it was the hosts who slumped to a 0-2 record and failed to score a touchdown for the second consecutive week, having been shutout by Baltimore last Sunday.

In contrast, the Texans - beaten by Jacksonville at home last week - claimed an important victory and had quarterback Watson, making his first NFL start on his 22nd birthday, to thank as he led the team in rushing courtesy of a game-winning 49-yard touchdown in the second quarter at Paul Brown Stadium.

Watch Texans rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson pull off an incredible 49-yard touchdown in his team's 13-9 win over the Bengals

Coach Bill O'Brien opted for the 12th round Draft pick over Tom Savage and despite a mixed evening, the former Clemson signal caller showed that he can be a threat with his ground game improving the team's options

An early fumble from rookie WR John Ross, making his first appearance, summed up the Bengals problems on offense, although Andy Dalton was much improved from the man who threw four interceptions in week one, completing 20 of his 35 passes for 224 yards but still no TD.

Other than Watson's stand-out moment, it was only the kickers that got on the scoresheet, Randy Bullock's three efforts giving the Bengals their first points of the season while the game was bookended by Kai Fairbairn's 26 and 42-yard efforts in the first and fourth quarter.
