Los Angeles Rams cornerback Aqib Talib likely will need ankle surgery, says coach Sean McVay.

McVay had a more upbeat injury update regarding the team's other starting cornerback, Marcus Peters, saying he is day-to-day.

Earlier on Monday, NFL Network reported that Talib would miss four to six weeks with a high ankle sprain. Talib was seeking a second opinion regarding the surgery recommendation, according to McVay.

The Rams hope to "get him back at some point in time," McVay said.

According to NFL Network, Peters will miss two to four weeks with a strained right calf. The report added that initial tests showed no structural damage for Peters and that he will have an MRI exam to confirm.

Peters went down in the first half against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday and could not put any weight on his right leg as he was carried to the sideline. He was then helped to a cart and taken to the locker room.

Talib limped off with an ankle injury in the second half and did not return.

The Rams acquired both players via trade this offseason, sending a second-round pick in a package to the Kansas City Chiefs for Peters and a fifth-rounder to the Denver Broncos for Talib.

Peters is a two-time Pro Bowl selection who tallied 19 interceptions in his first three seasons in the league, while Talib has 34 interceptions (10 returned for touchdowns) three games into his 11th season.

Through three games, the Rams rank sixth in total defense (296.0 yards per game) and first in points allowed (12.0 per game), as well as seventh in interception rate. Peters had a pick-six late in Week 1, while Talib had two pass-breakups in Week 2 and forced a fumble on Sunday.

After the Sunday game, McVay reported that returner/receiver JoJo Natson broke his hand and is out indefinitely.

The team was already without Pro Bowl returner Pharoh Cooper, who went on injured reserve due to an ankle injury after Week 1.
