In depth

Verdict

Star De Mohaison looked a future star when winning the Royal And Sun Alliance Chase at the Festival and he is our selection in the Mildmay Novices' Chase, while Commercial Flyer, Copsdale Lad and Bold Bishop rate as the main dangers. The Paul Nicholls-trained five-year-old had only won in minor novice company before landing the spoils last time but he jumped flawlessly that day whilst his main rivals blundered their chances away, and a similar round here would see him right there at the finish. He gets weight from the other challengers as he is only a five-year-old and that may make all the difference. Bewleys Berry and Zabenz were behind our selection at the Festival. Bewleys Berry made a bad mistake three out and trailed in sixth, but may have finished closer had he not made that blunder and he could go well at a big price. Bold Bishop unseated A P McCoy in the same race when staying on; he has strong place claims today. Commercial Flyer was a big disappointment at Cheltenham, but he lost a shoe and his action and was pulled up four out. Prior to that run he had looked a tough, staying chaser. He jumped impressively on his debut over fences and notched up four wins in ten days over hurdles last season. The Pipe-stable have had a poor season by their high-standards and you could not back Commercial Flyer with any real confidence but if you discount the Cheltenham run he is the main rival to our selection, Star De Mohaison.
