In depth

Hollywoodien struggles to find a change of gear nowadays and today’s going looks much too quick for Tom Symonds’ grey. Mr Whipped has plenty to prove having been pulled up on his first start for new connections while this is a new trip for Isaac Wonder, though he’s placed twice since undergoing a wind operation. Ballywood is another best over 2m though he did win over 2m2f at Taunton at the beginning of his chase career. Empire De Maulde, on the other hand, needs further. CAPTAIN TOM CAT (NAP) had a brief career between the flags before going hurdling. He won three times on good ground last season and looks just type to take advantage of a potentially-lenient mark over fences.

Ballywood (FR) 18-5 (11-11) Held up in rear, some headway when blundered 4 out, soon weakened, 4th of 7, dist behind Getaway Trump (11-12) at Doncaster 2m hcp (2) gd in Mar.

Militarian 40-1 (11-0) Raced keenly in 3rd, went 2nd at 8th, ridden after 3 out, bad mistake and weakened next, last of 4, 30 1/4l behind Frodon (11-6) at Sandown 2m 7f (1) gd in Apr.

Maypole Class (IRE) 50-1 (10-4) In touch in mid-division, lost place after 4th, behind 9th, last when not fluent 4 out, pulled up before 2 out, at Cheltenham 2m 5f hcp (1) gs in Mar.

Captain Tom Cat (IRE) 7-2jfav (10-12) Tracked leader, travelled keenly, disputed lead after 2 out, ridden and every chance approaching last, not fluent last and weakened run-in, 3rd of 12, 9 3/4l behind Proschema (11-1) at Cheltenham 2m 4f hcp (2) gd in Apr.

Isaac Wonder (IRE) 4-1 (11-0) In touch, headway to chase leaders 8th, went second before 3 out, ridden along approaching 2 out, ran on well final 100yds, just failed to get second, 3rd of 6, 11 1/2l behind Fanzio (11-5) at Perth 2m hcp (3) gd in Apr.

Empire De Maulde (FR) 5-1 (11-2) Held up in rear, took keen hold, headway after 7th, not fluent 9th, mistake 4 out, soon beaten, 4th and well held when not fluent 2 out, 4th of 6, 29 1/4l behind Almazhar Garde (11-12) at Kelso 2m 7f hcp (3) gd in Apr.

Solar Impulse (FR) Evens (11-6) Led sole rival, reached at 8th, pushed along before 4 out, headed and not fluent 2 out, hung right before last, held flat, last of 2, 2 1/2l behind Hatcher (12-7) at Ludlow 2m hcp (3) gd in Apr.

Mr Whipped (IRE) 40-1 (11-0) Mid-division on inside, mistake 7th, struggling when mistake 15th, pulled up before 3 out, at Aintree 3m 1f hcp (1) gs in Apr.

Hollywoodien (FR) 2-1jfav (11-4) Prominent, close up 2nd, led before 3rd, headed 7th, dropped to 3rd 4 out, hard ridden to chase leader before 3 out, distant 2nd 2 out, kept on from last but no chance with winner, 2nd of 6, 10l behind Financier (11-3) at Hereford 2m hcp (3) sft in Mar.
