In depth

Verdict

ELZAAM had Genki and Royal Rock behind when an excellent fourth in the Group 1 Golden Jubilee Stakes over C&D on soft ground in June. He doesn't like Newmarket so can be forgiven his subsequent run in the July Cup when just behind the consistent Genki and War Artist. Slowly away when a place behind Roger Charlton's sprinter at Haydock last time, Roger Varian's three-year-old can come out on top today on 3lb better terms. Gramercy is difficult to win with but is the type that runs better in decent company and he could sneak into a place here at decent odds, while Perfect Tribute is back over this trip for the first time since winning a Listed race over C&D in the spring and can't be ignored. Dinkum Diamond is usually thereabouts but is probably better over 5f so Desert Poppy may be the pick of the remainder.
