Verdict
A typically competitive event of its type with several of the 11 runners holding claims including Boule d'Or, Marbush and Dubois but the vote goes to Pass The Port, who is taken to give James Fanshawe another winner. The selection is open to plenty of improvement after just two career starts and looked a gelding of some potential when winning a Southwell maiden by six lengths last time. The stable's horses could not be in better form at present and he is taken to follow up. Boule d'Or and Marbush face no easy task giving weight away all round and a bigger threat may come from Godolphin's Dubois, who seemed not to stay 1m2f last time and may do better back over a mile today. Richard Hannon has his string in good order at present so Mission Man has to be respected, along with Roger Charlton's Verkhotina, who steps up in distance today and that should suit the daughter of Barathea. Pass The Port looked potentially useful at Southwell though and is taken to give James Fanshawe another winner at the end of a memorable week for the Newmarket-based handler.
