In depth
Verdict
James Fanshawe has a fine Ascot record and arrives double-handed with his two sprinting stars, both of whom scored at Royal Ascot this season. The tough Society Rock landed the Golden Jubilee Stakes and will play a prominent role if repeating that level, although he'll need to improve on his latest sixth in the Betfred Sprint Cup behind Dream Ahead. However, his liking for this track earns him shortlist inclusion. Deacon Blues, a game winner of the Wokingham Stakes, has yet to get on the Group 1 scoresheet but looks a dramatically improved sprinter and it would not surprise to see him take this step up to the top level in his stride. However, the vote goes to Freddy Head's French raider, MOONLIGHT CLOUD. Victory in the Prix Maurice De Gheest at Deauville never looked in doubt and although she's yet to oblige at this trip, her running style suggests the drop in distance should present no problem. Fellow French raider, Wizz Kid, is another to take careful note of, close-up in the Prix de L'Abbaye last time and still quite lightly-raced.
