Verdict
Ivawood, third in both the English and Irish versions of the 2000 Guineas, will be a short price for this but is no certainty dropping in trip and conceding weight to his rivals of which plenty have considerable scope for improvement - he was well beaten over 7f on his reappearance and Newmarket fourth Bossy Guest has a chance of revenge on these terms. Fillies have won two of the last five renewals and there are a couple in this that could upset the apple cart. FADHAYYIL was only beaten a length by 1000 Guineas runner-up Lucida over this trip in the Group 2 Rockfel Stakes in September and wasn't far behind the same filly when fifth in the Newmarket classic on her return to action. Sixth Irish Cookie was runner-up in the French 1000 Guineas next time so the form is rock-solid and Barry Hills' daughter of Tamayuz gets the vote in this. Devonshire is more exposed but was third in the Irish 1000 Guineas so warrants respect while Gowran maiden winner Sir Isaac Newton is held in high regard though, along with Hathal, has plenty to find. Toscanini rarely runs a bad race and may benefit for a step back up in trip but the headstrong Tupi may be a sitting duck and Swedish raider Volatile is likely to find a few too good. Mister Universe is tough, however, and could sneak into a place at decent odds.
