Verdict

A fascinating finale even it lacks the quality of what has gone before. Pallasator has 3lb more to carry than when successful last year and has shown nothing since. The marathon trip is going to test the stamina of Corelli but he’s the one with most scope and Frankie rides. Lucky Deal has already won twice this year but finished tailed off on his only previous try beyond 2m whereas Coeur Blimey beat a subsequent winner over 2m2f on soft going at Newbury. CLEONTE has a decent record here and had no luck in-running in the Ascot Stakes last year. He later finished a close third in the Cesarewitch and was placed behind Dee Ex Bee in the Sagaro Stakes here last month before a sixth in the Chester Cup. That is undoubtedly the best recent form on offer and he should take all the beating, even though there is certain to be support for Willie Mullins’ Max Dynamite who is returning from a break but did finish second in the Doncaster Cup last year. Younevercall and Black Corton are both having a first run on the Flat but the former won a Grade 2 hurdle at Sandown in April over this trip and the latter is a high-class chaser who will be staying on when others have cried enough.
