Verdict
With none of the eight declared having yet seen a racecourse it's hard to be confident about any of these, but there is a strong enough case to be made for GO who gets the vote from Malthouse and Apollo D'Negro. Richard Hannon's record with juveniles at this track doesn't read particularly well but when Jimmy Fortune rides one that statistic increases markedly, as the combination show a level stakes profit in two-year-old races over the past five years. Go looks a likely type on paper too as his dam was a precocious sort and he's got plenty of close relatives who showed abundant speed. With the yard in fine form during the week he's nominated ahead of Malthouse, at 100,000gns the most expensive of these. Mark Johnston has only landed three juvenile races this year from 44 runners which tempers enthusiasm, but this Green Desert colt is choicely bred and support would be noteworthy. Philip Robinson's booking aboard Apollo D'Negro catches the eye as he has a profitable record riding youngsters at Ascot. The half-brother to high-class juvenile Inca Lake is accordingly bred to come to hand early on and can't be ruled out with confidence. Barry Hills has as good a record as any in this so Escholido is respected despite looking likely to appreciate further in time while Plenty Power is another to note, representing a yard with a good record with their youngsters here. Without the market to guide us this is a tough race to solve, but Go makes plenty of appeal on paper and is selected.
