Verdict

A small field but at least four of the runners have realistic claims here. Night Fighter landed a few bets with an easy win at Doncaster last time out, and if in the same mood he ought to be able to handle a seven pound rise in the weights. Although that win was over half a mile shorter than today's trip, he does stay two and a half miles and is probably worth sticking with until beaten. Gayles and Showers was well beaten last time, but that was over an inadequate trip and the handicapper has given him a chance by dropping him three pounds for that run. He was a close third to Lord Jack over course and distance before that, with San Francisco well behind, and a reproduction of that sort of form would see him go close here. Emperors Magic is a stable companion of Night Fighter and really needs further than this. Jockey bookings suggest that he is the second string, although any market moves may be worth noting. Kung Hei Fat Choi won at Catterick a couple of starts ago, but that was a poor race and he is another who would be suited by a longer trip.
