Verdict

POKER DE SIVOLA is selected here ahead of Gone To Lunch, Mobaasher and Meanus Dandy, although a case can be made for many. Ferdy Murphy's gelding used to look hard to win with but he has turned over a new leaf recently, showing plenty of guts and determination to win the four mile race at Cheltenham last month. Killyglen has been left with top-weight following a raft of defectors this week but he ran a blinder when last seen and as a previous course winner is considered, as is Gone To Lunch who ran a blinder in this race last year. Mobaasher is a strong traveller who may relish this task, Theatrical Moment has progressed well this year and lost little in defeat in the William Hill Trophy, whilst Auroras Encore and Himalayan Trail give trainer Sue Smith a strong hand. No Panic, Western Gale, Scots Dragoon and Fine By Me all look likely contenders off nice racing weights, whilst this is the sort of trip that Merigo relishes and he looks a big player. Paddy Brennan is a good booking for Meanus Dandy; what the horse lacks in experience is made up for in ability and he should go close. Chiaro can be a bit stubborn but does keep on galloping, stablemate Out The Black has plenty of experience and has been aimed at this race for a while, whilst Faasel hasn't been with his new yard for long and is certainly not ruled out. Dessie Hughes went close in the big one at Aintree so Montero is far from ruled out here, along with Halcon Generlardais and the back-to-form Dom D'Orgeval. Poker De Sivola is fancied to win this for his trainer Ferdy Murphy, providing him with his third win in the last six years.
