Verdict

Half of the favourites in the past 10 years have been successful and last year's winner The Wow Signal, who went on to land two Group races, was well supported. His trainer John Quinn is represented by ANCIENT ASTRONAUT, an 80,000gns yearling and half-brother to three smart winners at around this trip. He is given the vote in an interesting race in which Ferryover is the only one with experience. He did nothing wrong on his debut at Beverley where he stayed on nicely over the stiff 5f to finish runner-up to King's Mimic, whose trainer Ann Duffield saddles My Amigo, the first foal of a 7f winner. Birkdale has plenty of pace in his pedigree as his dam won over this trip as a juvenile while Lockram's dam won the Lowther Stakes so he's another who should have speed to burn.
