In depth

Verdict

The day's feature event can go to the in-form Peter Monteith courtesy of Polyphon, with Nifty Roy, Cyborg De Sou, Sands Rising and The Names Bond all making for an interesting contest. Polyphon had been placed on three occasions at Ayr and it was no surprise when he came good here 12 days ago, beating Ton-Chee quite easily in the end. That made up for a couple of earlier near-misses, and despite a seven-pound penalty he should once again make a bold bid with conditions in his favour. In addition, Graham Lee, who has ridden him to two of his three career victories, is back in the saddle, and that can only add to our confidence in him. Nifty Roy got no further than the first at Kelso four days ago, but was ridden to perfection by Doug Costello over the course-and-distance the time before, so is a danger off his light weight. Cyborg De Sou is capable and is fairly handicapped on what he showed two years ago, while Sands Rising always seems to be on the premises without quite being good enough. The Names Bond bombed out badly on his first visit here in January and has to put that behind him to figure, but with no doubts about Polyphon, he has cast-iron claims of following up.
