In depth

Verdict

Tritonix can make a winning debut at the expense of Monashee Grey, with Crocodile Bay, Caliman and Capistrano likely to run well. Whether there are any potential Triumph Hurdle candidates on view remains to be seen, but Tritonix looks just the sort to keep in mind. Purchased by J P McManus after finishing third in Listed company on the Flat at Chantilly in September, he has schooled very well according to reports, and with Tony McCoy to guide him round, is taken to make an immediate impact. Monashee Grey has had just eight career starts in all, but that does include two outings over timber, including here on his debut. Second to Touch Of Ivory at Perth next time, he needs to improve to go one better. Crocodile Bay made a lot of the running at Kempton last time but shapes as though he needs further, while Capistrano went off the boil on the Flat after scoring over 10-furlongs at Ripon. A bigger threat may therefore be Caliman who should improve markedly on what he showed on his bumper bow at Exeter. Basically, Tritonix need not be anything special to oblige here, and he will be a popular choice.
