Verdict
The form of Sue Smith's yard marginally gives the preference to FIRST BOY ahead of the inconsistent Mad Professor and the potentially-useful Gus. The pick as been allotted a similar mark to that to which he was competitive off over timber and his debut over fences was solid enough to suggest there is more to come. The form lines from that race are potentially on the strong side and a marginal improvement from last time might be enough in a race that won't take much winning. Mad Professor was going backwards when falling last time after being up with the pace for much of a better race. A four-pound reprieve in his mark has been award for that and some indifferent performances and the six-year-old now looks well assessed. Gus made several jumping errors before pulling up on his latest attempt in better company and although his mark is looking on the high side he can get involved with a clean jumping performance. It's tricky to make a strong enough case for the others in the field so we won't, with First Boy the pick here.
