Verdict
Roger Charlton's Vaunt makes most appeal on pedigree among the newcomers in this contest but this may go to one with experience and the twice raced Longquan gets the vote among them with Dowlleh rated the best of the remainder. The selection showed promise on his Windsor debut and stepped up on his effort there when finding just Strategic Prince too good at Salisbury subsequently. A reproduction of that latest effort may well suffice. Apollo Five ran with credit on his Warwick debut but this looks tougher, while Make Me An Offer needs to improve on the form shown in his two starts to take a hand. Rod Millman's two-year-olds are not in the same sort as form as 12 months ago and his runner Stagehand would need to step up considerably on his debut effort so a bigger threat may come from Mick Channon's Dowlleh, who finished second of five on his Hamilton debut and is hard to evaluate. Longquan looks easier to assess though and is taken to gain a deserved first success.
