In depth
Verdict
Judraan and Golden Shadow both have claims on the pick of their limited form so far but both would probably prefer a softer surface and a safer bet looks to be Green Calibre, who is preferred. The selection would look to be one of the stable's lesser lights but Sir Michael Stoute's colt stepped up on previous form when tackling a fast surface for the first time at Catterick last month and should appreciate the conditions more than his main rivals. Deepwater Bay should improve for his debut effort at Newbury and could be of interest, while Merchant Bankes probably needs to improve to trouble the selection. Neither Busy Shark nor Weet For Ever make any great appeal and a bigger threat is likely to come from Judraan. The Michael Jarvis-trained colt has shown a consistent level of form and should appreciate today's longer trip but the son of Alhaarth is far from certain to handle today's faster ground. Golden Shadow looks to be going the right way but is another that would probably prefer softer ground and a better bet is probably Green Calibre, who gets the vote.
