    Verdict

A woeful start to the card and even the worst of the draw may not be enough to stop Gleneagles adding to his tally; Rann Na Cille, Kassuta and Ishibee rate as dangers on the pick of their recent efforts and complete the shortlist. Ishibee was a game winner of a handicap on her penultimate start but ran no sort of race at Pontefract in her follow up bid. She is better than that, and may well improve or the step up in trip. Her yard are in good form just now, so watch the betting market carefully. Kassuta kept on well to finish second at Windsor a fortnight ago - creating the impression that an extra furlong would not go amiss. She was sharpened up by the headgear on that occasion and will be a contender if it has the same effect this afternoon. Rann Na Cille was done for toe in her last two outings and, as she is still a maiden after 14 previous attempts; her frailties in a finish are exposed for all to see. That said, her recent profile is better than most of the deadwood around her and she has to merit respect at this lowly level. However, Gleneagles, who got the better of a 72-rated opponent when landing his maiden at Warwick, has little to find confirm himself as the best horse in the race. The traditional bias of the draw is obviously a concern - as the track stats don't lie. However, not many races are as lacking in quality as this one, so Gleneagles has to be worth chancing in this grade.
