Verdict
WAFFLE, who was placed in a Group 3 last season, has an obvious chance in this company and is fancied to repel the challenges from Ares Choix and Noble Storm. A move for Dunes Queen would also be interesting. As is the case with the selection, tonight's better ground will help the last named banish the memory of a poor effort at Hamilton earlier in the month. Quite whether she will really appreciate the drop to the minimum distance is debatable, though. Noble Storm is a consistent type and deserves a change of fortune. However, he is set a stiff test under the race conditions and needs to pull out all the stops if he is going to come out on top. Ares Choix showed plenty of potential last term and shouldn't be underestimated; despite representing a yard that has made a quiet start to the Flat turf season. It is, however, reasonable to assume this daughter of Choisir will be going hell-for-leather to kick-start Pat Haslam's campaign, so a market move in her direction would be most noteworthy. However, Waffle, who was only beaten a neck by Amour Propre in the Cornwallis Stakes at Ascot last October, sets the standard for the time being. Tonight's quicker ground will be a massive boost for Waffle and he is fancied to atone for his 'no-show' at York a fortnight ago.
