Verdict
Diamond Royal gets the vote to win this on her handicap debut where Always Brave, Bourse and the very interesting Smooth As Silk look the main dangers on paper. Diamond Royal, a half-sister to her smart stable mate Chantilly Tiffany, races off a mark of 68 here, after three outings in maidens where she shaped with some promise. It is hard to assess whether that mark is deserving on what she has shown to date but Ed Dunlop has quite a knack at improving these fillies. The maidens which she contested did not look particularly strong, however, she could be one that was campaigned with handicaps in mind. Always Brave has ample experience but is not open to as much improvement as some. His best turf form is on easier surfaces. The third from the Leicester handicap in which he finished runner-up was well-backed to land the finale at Newmarket on Sunday off 65 but was well beaten. Bourse races off a 6lb penalty and clearly is an improving sort. Bred to appreciate a sound surface he could well emerge the one to put it up to the selection. Smooth As Silk is another handicap debutant that should improve for the additional couple of furlongs here. The third from the Salisbury maiden in which she finished fifth was well beaten at Leicester but there was a lot to like about the style in which Smooth As Silk stayed on. Diamond Royal gets the vote to land this.
