In depth

Sir Michael Stoute is selective with northern raids and will be keen to notch a victory with Juddmonte three-year-old, FIERY MISSION. Not disgraced on either start, the form of his latest run was boosted when the winner scored in competitive handicap company over the weekend. Conditions are a concern in an above-average maiden but that applies to all bar the topweight. Noble Music, hard to assess, makes a return to action after a promising Doncaster debut back in March and the market should guide, whilst Roman Stone and Baladio have already shown enough to land an ordinary maiden. Sole older horse, Jeu De Mots, is in fair form over fences and handles heavy ground.

Jeu De Mots (FR) 6-4fav (10-10) Raced wide, held up in 4th, jumped slowly 6th, dropped to rear at 7th, mistake 2 out (normal 3 out), headway in 3rd after last (normal 2 out), one pace and no impression run-in, 3rd of 5, 8 3/4l behind Ardera Cross (11-9) at Cartmel 2m 1f hcp (3) sft in Jul.

Fiery Mission (USA) 15-8fav (9-2) Held up towards rear, headway over 3f out, hampered over 1f out, one pace, 4th of 11, 8 3/4l behind Lady Lawyer (9-4) at Chelmsford City 1m stks (4) pol in Jul.
