In depth

Verdict

A tough finale can go the way of MANOUBI, who may have the most to fear from Teenando and Honour¿s Dream. It will be a long trip to Carlisle for the last named and, as he loves to get his toe in, the ground conditions will be a big help in making the journey worthwhile for Tom George's charge. Stamina for the actual distance of the race is a slight concern, though. Teenando is a course and distance winner, so has no doubts on that score. However, he looks weighted to the limit at present and, therefore, has a bit to prove. Of the others: Lago was clobbered by the handicapper after winning here in December and was very disappointing last time out, while Red Scally, Mango Chief and (even) Chickapeakray have also failed to shine of late and a bit of strong faith would be required to wholeheartedly recommend any of them. Therefore, as Manoubi has at least strung together a series of consistent performances, he gets the nod on this occasion. The undulating course and state of the ground are not expected to be a hindrance and, considering Manoubi has won off 105 in the past, his current rating of 93 will be blown out of the water if he can recapture his old sparkle.
