        Verdict

        The usual open renewal of this historic handicap can go to the progressive BILLHILLY. He missed out on a hat-trick when runner-up at Yarmouth but wasn’t beaten far and Charlie Fellowes’ charge gets another chance. Garden Oasis came out best in a tight finish at Ayr recently though a rejuvenated Get Knotted wasn’t beaten far in fourth while Star Shield went close at Haydock last week and is preferred to stablemate Waarif, who won this in 2018. Chichester and Howzer Black have won over a mile this year and both placed over 1m2f last time while Baby Steps and Fred found one too good over 7f on their respective latest starts. Lion Tower landed a double over a mile before beaten over further at York and could also go well.
