In depth

Verdict

The biggest priced winner of this in ten seasons has been 13/2, and favourites fare well, so it is probably best to concentrate on those towards the head of the market and we'll take Watergate to score, while Tropical Blue may prove next best. The selection is stepped up to 7f for the first time here and that can elicit improvement from a couple of promising runs so far. Fast ground suits, and Sir Mark Prescott has his runners going very well, so we'll side with the Verglas colt. Tropical Blue is from another in-form yard, that of Jennie Candlish, and improved for the step up to this trip at Leicester last time, when just held in a maiden. That was good form in context and the colt is respected. Pacific Bay needs to improve on what we have seen so far, while Woteva has not come on since her debut and tries this trip for the first time. Digger Derek has the profile to emerge as the best of the debutants, but we prefer the claims of Watergate.
