      Verdict

      Briary Mac handled the cut in the ground well enough when beaten in a maiden over course and distance and Neville Bycroft's filly has to be respected but she was made the 2/1 favourite for that contest and looks worth taking on here in a race where it may be worth taking a chance with GOWER SOPHIA, who is preferred to Confessional. Tim Easterby's gelding has ran creditably on a softer surface on the only occasion that he has encountered cut in the ground and has run well on fast ground and on the Polytrack of late. Stable companion Light Nights makes no appeal and of more interest may be Alan Berry's Hot Rod Mamma, who may do better now racing on a softer surface. Preference though is for Mel Brittain's Gower Sophia, who is lower rated than most of her rivals but, being by Captain Rio, handles a soft surface and she looks worth chancing in this contest.
