Tanforan is only 4lbs higher than when landing a Thirsk handicap over a mile in May but has three times been beaten off today's mark since then and a place looks to be the best that Lynda Ramsden's gelding can hope for so preference is for Just Bond, who gets the vote ahead of Brut. The last mentioned has run well off higher marks in the spring and could be of interest stepping up to seven furlongs for the first time today, having given the impression that a longer trip would suit in his last two starts. Top weight Guadiaro has disappointed in two starts in this grade but may be capable of better and cannot be discounted completely, while Red Chairman has been given a chance by the handicapper. A market move for Wayward Shot would be of interest while, at the bottom end of the weights, Paris Heights has claims on the form shown when landing a maiden claimer at Beverley. The vote though goes to Bryan Smart's Just Bond, who ran a race full of promise on his handicap debut at Carlisle last time and, having run green there, it is fair to assume that there may be more improvement to come.
