Verdict
OENOLOGUE can see off the handicapper's penalty to beat King In Waiting and Patavium. Alison Thorpe has a couple of runners today but this looks to be the pick and could explain why Richard Johnson makes a rare visit to the track. A convincing winner at Fontwell, there looks to be no more to do here. King In Waiting disappointed at Hexham last time out. He is better judged on a fair second to Fushe Jo at Wetherby last November. Patavium has won on soft going on the flat so if there is any money in the ring for him it should not be ignored. Rare Coincidence has been a fine servant to connections though has found life tough in handicaps over hurdles. He could well be asked to make the running this afternoon. Lawgiver exhibits his better form on good going while Sedgefield maiden winner, Wheyaye, handles the surface and she does represent a small yard that had a winner last week. Oenologue appears to be on an upward curve and if in the same mood as at Fontwell, it will take a good one to beat him.
