Verdict
A race that should not take much winning can go to PHILOSOPHERS STONE, with Mottley Crewe, Sharp Shoes and Nabrina all of interest. The last-named was a shade disappointing here last time, when a beaten favourite over course and distance. It may have been the ground that was against her, or possibly an outside draw, and both those factors look more in her favour today, so we respect her claim. Sharp Shoes sees out 6f well and goes on fast ground, and he is no lost cause despite a moderate effort last time over further. Mottley Crewe was well behind on his Doncaster debut, but he is sure to come on for the experience and he is also related to winners over this trip, so with that plus his trainer's good form at present he can show plenty more today. Even so, we will side with Philosopher's Stone. David Barron is another trainer in good nick and his gelding made a nice Southwell debut in March before failing to fulfil that promise next time. Even so, he is well worth another try and especially over this shorter trip, and we will give him the tentative vote.
