Verdict

Marcle Ridge won over 2m4f at this meeting in 2021 but hasn’t had much racing since. However, he was well backed on his reappearance in a Mixed Open at Howick in March and didn’t disappoint. Tommie O’Brien is his usual rider but switches here to TRIO FOR RIO and Clive Boultbee-Brooks’ 10-year-old looks to have been laid out for a third successive victory in this contest having beaten Moratorium a length last year with Hidden Charmer a well-beaten third. Fairly Famous was unbeaten in four runs between the flags last season but has yet to place under Rules.
