Verdict

The Market Man is just preferred to Penneyrose Bay, with Valley Ride and Cherub just two more in with chances. The Market Man returns to the scene of his reappearance victory in October, and this lightly-races sort has the scope to improve even further. Any more heavy rain would be a worry for the New Zealand-bred, but he handled soft ground when scoring at Kempton last November, so he is still the choice off what looks a tempting mark, given the ease of his latest success. Penneyrose Bay bids to defy another rise after her Wincanton demolition job over Almah, and can give the selection most to do. She is due to go chasing eventually, and that could be sooner rather than later. Valley Ride is on a retrieval mission, having unshipped Tom Doyle on the run-in at Stratford when all set to justify favouritism, handing the race on a plate to Croix de Guerre. He was a progressive sort last term and is another that is set to play a part in proceedings. Cherub had the world at his feet two seasons ago after landing a big four-year-old race at Punchestown, but mirrored the form of the rest of Jonjo's team last year. He should be kept on the right side of along with Nippy Des Mottes who hacked up at Exeter recently. However, The Market Man has the scope to progress further and is the one to be on.
